The Inside Story of the Angels' Mission.
The idea that there are Angels all around us is both wonderful and inspiring. No longer are Angels confined to Christmas cards or the top of dying pine trees in our living rooms. Angels are making a comeback!
But where are they from? What do they do? Why do they interact with earthly beings such as us? Can we contact them? What would they say if we would?
Many people claim to have guardian Angels or to have regular contact with Angels. What should we do if we meet them? How can they help us on our search for spiritual meaning and significance?
As we listen to stories about Angels and people, the overwhelming impression is that they are messengers. In general, they bring messages from a higher realm to people living an earthly existence in order that those people might live their lives as truly as possible to their created purpose. Today, people still experience this kind of guidance.
Marilynn had a dream one night where she was visited by four Angels dressed in black. She was a follower of Jesus and believed in Angels, but was not expecting them to be dressed in this colour. As she looked at the expression on their faces, she guessed that the reason they were dressed in black was that they were in mourning. To her, their stricken faces could not hide the story.
Suddenly she was awake and for the first time experienced extreme pain. She immediately saw a cancer specialist and soon after, he operated and removed a cancer. The doctor explained to her that they had caught the cancer just in time and were able to remove it completely without the need for chemotherapy or follow-up treatment. If it had not been discovered then, it would have spread and threatened her life.
The four mourning Angels urgently guided Marilynn and she acted upon their wisdom. She recognised that they were sent from God and had guidance for her. The discovery of the cancer demonstrated the truthfulness of the Angels message.
Angels also have the role of protecting people in special ways and circumstances.
Joyce was riding her bike home from work late one sunny afternoon. The hot sun, low in the sky made it difficult for everyone on the street to see. Pedalling to an intersection with a stop sign, instead of stopping, she eased around the corner and was hit from behind by a truck whose driver did not see her. She was catapulted over the handlebars. Although she was not a follower of Christ, she cried out "Jesus! Help me!"
Immediately Joyce felt herself being cushioned, as though she were wrapped in pillows. When she landed, witnesses said she bounced like a person landing on a trampoline. Joyce felt no pain. As a precaution she went to Hospital, where a thorough check revealed no injuries. Joyce's explanation is that the pillows were angels gently carrying her. In gratitude, Joyce began a spiritual quest that bought her to faith in the same Jesus who had answered her emergency prayer.
These are remarkable stories! But the most thrilling stories are found in the Christian Sacred Writing. There we find all kinds of angelic encounters. Most angelic activity takes place in the life of the Master Jesus. Before he was born, an Angel came to Mary and said that she would give birth to this great spiritual teacher. Jesus had a home birth in a barn, and that day many Angels sang for joy. At other key times in Jesus' life, Angels came to his assistance. They also shared with his followers after he died and came back from the grave alive.
The Sacred Writings disclose that Angels are God's messengers, and have been created by God. They may bring comfort and protection, an answer to prayer, and provide guidance. The Sacred Writings also disclose that Angels acknowledge the mastery of Jesus over them. As the ultimate spiritual master Jesus has lived like one of us. He knows what it is like to struggle, have pains and hurts, lose friends, be misunderstood and rejected. When Jesus came among us the Angels showed up. The Angels continually pointed people to Jesus. As our friends in high places, Angels want us to embrace their maker and master.
Jesus lived the authentic spiritual life and has confronted our great enemy: death. He has broken its power for us. He has dealt with our deepest problems and guilt. Jesus is the ultimate source for wisdom, guidance and power to live. Angels want us to allow the Spirit of Jesus to live inside us. In the midst of the ups and downs of life, He is always there: with a steady hand upon us. Angels want us to share in the power Jesus offers us. The Angels want us to put our reliance on Jesus because He is the most trustworthy spiritual guide of all. Will you follow the Angels advice and trust in Jesus?
